PhotoVoice Part 1

For my project, I will be discussing advertisement and use of marijuana. Marijuana has been a hot topic in the U.S. ever since it was legalized a few years ago. Ever since then, I have seen numerous marijuana stores open up in places all over. I plan to cover these questions in my project.

  • “Who’s selling me what?”
  • “What choice/s do I have?”

First Part: Photovoice

I will be discussing the advertisement and glorification of alcohol consumption. Especially in college towns, much like Ellensburg, people have an idea that excess alcohol is an appropriate thing to do. I would like to focus on not just college student as consumers but, mothers, fathers, young 21 year olds, and even the older generation. I will be posting a powerpoint providing photos and different ads I come across in everyday life. My plan is to answer the following questions…

  • “How healthy IS it?”
  • “What choice/s do I have?”
  • “Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be unhealthy?”
  • “Who has the upper hand and how?”

Photovoice #1

For this project, I am considering looking at supplements (commonly referred to as vitamins). Supplements are available at a wide variety of stores across the US and advertise that they assist with various medical conditions. Many people do not know how to properly use supplements or even what to use in the first place. In addition, the quality of research varies from a supplement to supplement. I would photograph different products and aisles at stores for this project. I want to look at the standards, regulations, labeling, and marketing of supplement products by asking the questions:

  • How healthy is it?
  • Why is it so difficult to be healthy?
  • Do I really know what I need to make a healthy choice?
  • What is the typical discourse about this and similar products/services?

PhotoVoice Part One

For my photovoice project I am planning to answer:

  • What choices do I have?
  • Do I really know what I need to to make a healthy choice?
  • Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be unhealthy?

I plan on creating a powerpoint and presenting photos of food, nutritional information, diabetes manuals and other related images. With this project I plan to bring more awareness to consumers about diabetes and some of the myths associated with it. I want to show what diabetes actually is, and how it can limit consumer choices and viewpoints, and why it is so difficult to be healthy as a diabetic.

Great Photovoice posts so far – and….

So – I’m seeing some cool posts, and I’ll expect more by end of day TOMORROW (Thurs) – note, I had Wed Nov 23 as the deadline, but have corrected it because Thurs is the 23rd…

SO IF you want to post following whatever passes for tomorrow’s big dinner with loud family, feel free!

Just a reminder as to the Photovoice instructions – at the Guidelines and Deadlines page, about 2/3 of the way down. I think you’ll really enjoy this assignment. From the posts so far, I’m expecting to see quite a few projects that deal with food….

PhotoVoice – 1

For my PhotoVoice project I will be answering the questions: How healthy is it? Who’s selling me what? Do I really know what I need to in order to make a healthy choice? and Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be healthy?

I think that all of these questions go hand in hand. I will most likely use power point to display images as well as short clips of various foods, menu’s, and perhaps even nutrition facts provided by restaurants. Normally, I don’t eat out so I might also include home cooked meals and with thanksgiving around the corner, making healthier choices as well as eating healthier will be a challenge!

PhotoVoice Part 1

For my project, I’ll be answering the questions –

  • How healthy is it?
  • What choice’s do I have?
  • Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be unhealthy?

I plan on creating a Powerpoint and taking photos of foods that are advertised as healthy. Restaurants that claim to be “healthier” such as Chipotle, Panera Bread and Subway. I’ll be recording the calories, sodium, and sugar in the meals I get as well a taking photos of the food. Doing this will show if restaurants that claim to be healthier are true or not.

PhotoVoice part 1

My idea for this project is to create a PowerPoint. In this power point, I will use photos that I will take. I will take the photos of food before I eat them. I will mostly take photos of food that I personally will eat or popular food.  I will compare the unhealthy food photos with healthy food photos. I will go to fast food restaurant with friends and see what they order. Then I will also go to non-fast food restaurant. After doing all these, I will research how much calories each meal has and I’ll compare it. I will see the difference and I will answer the question “Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be unhealthy?”, “How healthy IS it?”,  or “who has the upper hand and how?” I would do this project by experiencing different food and examining why are unhealthy food popular and what are the causes of this?

PhotoVoice Idea

For my photovoice project, I will be answering two questions: How healthy is it? And Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be unhealthy. I will create a PowerPoint slide that will contain an image of a healthy home-cooked meal. I will list all the ingredients that I need to create the meal as well as the cost of each ingredient. My second image will have unhealthy foods that can be purchased for the same price as the one healthy home-cooked meal.

PhotoVoice Part One

For my PhotoVoice project I will be attempting to answer the questions “Do I really know what I need to make a healthy choice?”, “How healthy is it?”, and “Why is it so difficult to be healthy/easy to be unhealthy?”. An idea that I had for this was to go around to three fast food companies and ask to see their nutritional facts menu. I am planning to go to McDonald’s, Jack in the Box, and Taco Bell. I will be able to see how readily available the nutritional facts are and how many nutritional facts are provided for what items on the menu. This should allow me to find out if I know all the information that I need to make a healthy choice and to find out how healthy different fast food actually is. Also, based on how readily available this nutritional information is I will be able to judge why it is so difficult to be healthy as a college kid on a budget. I will post pictures of the nutritional fact sheets and possibly short videos timing how long it took the fast food chain to get me these sheets. Then I plan to post pictures of some of the healthiest and unhealthiest foods on the menu to get a sense of what they look like and how looks of food can be deceiving.
